well each death knight tree has its own advantages are all good...but heres a break down of there main purposes (at least from my perspective and a bit of others too)
Blood- is mainly for soloing due to the effect of being able to heal yourself (dps)
Frost- tank by increasing armor and such
Unholy- this is my fav this is more of a pvp spec due to the ability to keep a ghoul as a pet. (dps) _________________ Things needed to be added to WoW...
- Tauren rouges
- Tauren mages
- Tauren should beat gnomes everytime reguardless of level |

The downside to Unholy being it's the most fragile of the 3 specs (although that may just be me sucking lol). Still my favorite of the 3 trees though - the DPS is Armageddon-level, especially at 60+ if you pop Death&Decay followed by Unholy Blight ... AoE madness! Frost I find has less DPS than the other two, but the armor bonuses and control abilities definitely make for solid tanking. And yeah, as blood spec I found my health bar barely ever moved, even when taking on elites or multiple mobs at once. Leveling spec of choice for good reason. _________________ It's not the size of your FWOOSH - it's how you use it. -- Richard 4:12 |

Hellmoo has it about perfect. I do disagree on the survivability for unholy I was still able to solo all 3 man quests and few of the 5 man in Icecrown. Just need to switch presence and sacrifice your ghoul when it’s on cool down you can just summon him back. Blood tends to be more gear driven and will scale well end game but can't compare to Unholy dps early on. Unholy has some insane damage my first Heroic run last night I was already doing 2.2k over the entire instance.
Can't tell you much about frost though I haven't played with that spec yet since I already have a tank. Once I get my hit rating up to par I plan on going the frost/unholy duel wielding spec I've seen people putting up 5k dps in 25 mans with it. |

Frost is obviously the tanking spec, but it's also the Dual Wielding DPS tree. Here's basically the rundown that I can give you:
Blood:
-Uses 2H weapons, focuses on ArP and increasing damage
-Good for self-healing/solo'ing old world content
-VERY gear reliant, need a strong 2H to really make this one pack a punch
Frost:
-Most raiding tanks will be spec'd Frost, as most of their damage reduction abilities lay in this tree.
-DW DPS is used here instead of a 2H weapon. The damage is proc based (Killing Machine, Rime, etc) and you need to be very aware of them when they activate (I recommend using Power Auras to help)
-These guys basically act like an Assassin rogue
Unholy:
-From what I gather, the PvP spec. Has pretty decent survivability and lots of burst abilities. Uses 2H weapons but really focuses on using their spells to the best of their abilities.
I haven't been Unholy in a LONG time on Xander, but that's what I remember from those days. Either way, they're a lot of fun _________________

good info! thx
yeah those frost dks are wicked vs a caster. almost as nasty as u hunters.... so many interupts
the blood is good pvp but really needs a ghoul out to beat a caster kinda like a hunter without his pet easy kill ( course they always have thier pet out booooooo)
im impressed with the dmg ghouls do _________________
